Empty Room
Darkness drapes an empty room
Mirth and melancholy mixed in my head
He calls once a week
Grades are good, friends are fine
College consumes his cosmos
My son’s success soothes my soul
Cherished stories in my heart
A room stands silently still
Meatloaf in the oven, but it doesn’t matter
Triumph thrives a thousand miles away
Trapped between two emotions
A barren room stands where bliss once breathed
Now laughter lives in another city
Musky sweet memories left behind
I watch a distant flame grow grand
And feel it’s burning upon my hollow heart
